Premium Vinyl Sticker of Lear's/Indigo Macaw
๐ฆ๐ Learโs macaw, also known as the indigo macaw, is a parrot species occupying a highly restricted native range in Brazil.
๐ฆ๐ This species is smaller than the hyacinth macaw, has a greener tinge, and a differently shaped patch of yellow skin next to the base of the bill.
๐ฆ๐ Their wild habitat was discovered only in 1978 on sandstone cliffs within a 250,000 km sq. vicinity in Brazil.
๐ฆ๐ The most recent record of their numbers was 1,694 in 2018.
๐ฆ๐ The main threat to the Learโs macaw is loss of habitat due to humans.
๐ฆ๐ Learโs macaw has also been a victim of hunting, but more recently individuals are more often being trapped for the aviary trade.
๐ฆ๐ The sandstone cliffs that the macaws use to roost have been bought by Fundaรงรฃo Biodiversitas for protection of the species.
๐ฆ๐ The Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) manage any current conservation projects, however, they state that since the presidency of Bolsonaro, the Amazon forest has seen a 278% increase in the rate of deforestation.
